Dear
I’ve recently seen some long-awaited developments in the awareness of the menopause. It’s being talked about in the mainstream media, by many celebrities, and as a result, by far more women and men at work and at home.
I’m also aware a new Menopause Taskforce has been established, along with Government commitments to reduce the cost of NHS HRT prescriptions for women in England. It feels like we are finally starting to see a breakthrough for women who are experiencing menopausal symptoms.
Although I feel this is welcome news for those who are suffering and for their families, it is vital that we are also able to access the care we need from qualified and experienced medical professionals locally.
Whilst I realise GPs have some training in the menopause, there is a need for a menopause clinic, staffed by fully qualified specialists.
Specialist menopause clinics are found in some areas of the UK but when (I/women) tried to get the help I/they needed I discovered that we do not have one here in Devon! The nearest NHS Menopause Clinic is a 120 mile round trip from Devon, and has a 7-8 month waiting list.

This lack of access to specialist treatment and support in the menopause has not just impacted me, it has also impacted my partner, my colleagues, and my family.
I’m sure you’ll agree that I and other women and families of Devon should have access to the same options, choices and level of care that the women in other Counties of the UK receive.
To this end, I ask Devon CCG to provide the county of Devon with a specialist Menopause Clinic, and I ask the Department of Health & Social Care to ensure this is adequately funded.
Yours sincerely
